We built an outdoor planter for a home in Panama City, Fl. Going into this project, the challenge was to create adequate plant drainage while retaining enough structure to hold the weight of the soil. The foundation of the planter consists of 6, 4×4 treated posts. We added river rock surrounding a hefty wooden frame and installed tongue and groove pine on 3 sides. On the inside, we added plywood at angles for water to drain down through the center of the box. By choosing several types of wooden materials, this outdoor planter can withstand moist conditions associated with any flower garden.
